Numerology 101: back to the basics

Do you remember the Pythagorean theorem? To be honest I sure don’t! But the same philosopher who came up with that is the one who developed the system of numerology.

Pythagoras believed that the movement of the planets, seasons, and human behavior could be boiled down into a mathematical code. Numerology uses numbers one through nine to encode this information. It is quite similar to astrology; the numbers are directly linked to our astrological signs.

These numbers are said to take on characteristics of the signs they are assigned to and vice versa.

Notable Numbers

Let’s talk about some important numbers in Numerology. If you would like, you can follow along by doing your own calculations. You will use your full name (first, middle, last) and birthday (month/day/year) for these.

Before making your calculations, it is important to note that for Numerology there are Master numbers - 11 and 22 and 33

These are called “master numbers” as they are said to offer double the power of the number it reduces to. These numbers are never reduced to a number between 1-9 and remain as double-digit sums.

  • Life Path Number

    •  Can help you understand your communication style, your innate skills and abilities, and your life’s purpose. At its very core, the Life Path Number can help you begin to figure out the direction you’re destined to take in life (calculate by adding up the numbers in your full date of birth)

  • Destiny Number

    • What you are destined to do in this lifetime and who you are destined to become (calculate by adding up your full name, reducing each name to a single digit, then adding up the total)

  • Soul Number

    • Inner values, your life and how you would like to be perceived, and how you would like the values in other people around you to be, dislikes and likes, what you like and dislike in others (calculate by getting rid of consonants in your name and adding up the total of all names)

  • Personality Number

    • Looks at the personality of the person and how we’re perceived by others (calculate by getting rid of vowels in your name and adding up the total of all names)

As a spiritual advisor, I work regularly with clients to understand these numbers, and what they mean for each person. Alignment is made easier when you have a deeper understanding of who you are.
